Description

The Eames shell chairs from Vitra were first developed in 1948 as part of an entry for the Museum of Modern Art's 'International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design'. Now designed with a 100% recyclable polypropylene shell seat, the Eames chairs today are recognisable, durable and versatile seating solutions for your modern home. The seats are designed in a broad colour palette that refreshes the initial colour set used by Charles and Ray Eames to introduce contemporary bright or neutral tones to your space. All Eames plastic chairs are weather-resistant. This shell seat is supported by a wooden, light maple base. Want to see it first? You may want to see and get a feel for the furniture in one of our shops before ordering. We'll be able to tell you where the range you'd like to view is on display.

Our Stylist Says

I love this chair because of its classic design with a contemporary twist-its light blue seat adds a subtle colour pop without overwhelming the space. It works particularly well in modern and Scandinavian interiors, where clean lines and natural wood accents are key. Practical styling tips include pairing it with a minimalistic dining table or using a mix of colours for a more eclectic look. Its light maple legs make it versatile and easy to integrate into both warm-toned and monochrome schemes. To keep it looking fresh, consider adding colourful cushions or upholstery for extra comfort and visual interest.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
