The CH88 chair was initially developed as a prototype for the Helsingborg International Exhibition in Sweden in 1955. Decades later, Carl Hansen & Søn put the chair into production to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Hans J. Wegner in 2014. Although known for his work in wood throughout his career, Hans J. Wegner often explored the limits and potential of other materials, as is the case for this model. Harmoniously combining wood and steel, the CH88 chair highlights Wegner's ability to bring softness to minimalist forms. This chair consists of a tubular steel frame that supports a plywood seat and steam-bent solid wood back. Pointed forward, the extremities of the backrest are elegantly curved, forming a natural resting place for the forearms. In this version, the padded seat is covered in luxurious leather.
