Description
More than 200 projects in France and around the world, immense projects that have sealed his status as the most famous French architect in the world, Jean Nouvel has accumulated international awards. The NVL table is the second project that Jean Nouvel created for the MDF Italia brand. The distinctive traits of his architecture are clearly present in this table and celebrate the stylistic elements which have always characterised the work of Jean Nouvel: clean geometric shapes, formal lightness, a graphic aspect and rigour. A very strong character for this monochrome table which sports monolithic contemporary lines. The NVL table is based around simple geometric shapes: a cylinder with a round base for the round table and a cylinder with an oval base for the oval table. Jean Nouvel took inspiration from trilithons: in archaeology, trilithons are megalithic structures made of two vertical stones and a third placed horizontally on top of the first two (like a lintel). Slender and light, the lacquered MDF top appears to float above the polyurethane cast-iron weighted base. The top is supported by a central baser comprised of two symmetric shapes which get thinner toward the top to reduce the intersecting surface between the legs and the top as much as possible. The shape of the base divided into two distinct parts highlights the constructive force linking the three elements of the table: the two legs and the top.
