Description

Elevate your kitchen or dining space with the Nkuku Ukari dining chair. Designed with a sturdy iron frame and an aged leather, padded seat and backrest, it's as comfortable as it is stylish, with subtle stitching detail on the seat and back adding to the aesthetic. Each chair is handmade in India using traditional techniques and crafted from Buffalo leather, which is a by-product. Want to see it first? You may want to see and get a feel for the product in one of our shops before ordering. We'll be able to tell you where the range you'd like to view is on display.

Our Stylist Says

I’m a big fan of the Ukari chair for its blend of slim, black powder-coated steel and gently worn, saddle-toned leather - it feels lived-in without looking sloppy. Its clean lines suit industrial-inspired lofts, mid-century modern dining rooms or even a pared-back Scandi scheme, and it’s sturdy enough for daily use yet light enough to move around when you need extra seating. For styling, pair it with a reclaimed oak or walnut table to introduce warmth and texture. A simple linen cushion or a small sheepskin draped over the back adds comfort without masking its sleek profile. Keep surrounding colours neutral - charcoal greys, soft whites and muted greens work well - and sprinkle in a few brass or terracotta accents to complete the look.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
