Description

Our well-designed Fia benches have a striking angular leg that sits stylishly beneath a tactile, mango wood bench seat. Our mango wood pieces are created from sustainable mango wood. The Mango trees are initially grown for their fruit, harvested over a number of years. Once the trees have stopped bearing fruit, they can be cut down and used to make our wooden pieces. This allows farmers to plant more trees and provides them with a supplementary income.

Our Stylist Says

I’m a fan of the Fia bench for its clean lines and warm mango-wood top set on slim black legs - it feels right at home in Scandi-inspired or pared-back modern schemes, but its natural tone also complements industrial lofts or coastal retreats. Because it’s generously sized, you can use it as extra dining seating or position it in an entrance hall without it looking oversized. For styling, keep it simple: a couple of monochrome cushions or a woven throw will soften the wood, while a slim runner or tray with a vase and small ceramics adds interest without clutter. If you’re using it in a hallway, pair it with a wall mirror above and a basket underneath for shoes or blankets to make the most of its practical appeal.

About Nkuku

Established in 2003, Nkuku offers ethically sourced, handcrafted, and eco-friendly homewares and furniture. Their pieces introduce an element of rustic elegance to your space, perfect for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The Story of Nkuku

Inspired by the artisans they met during a world trip in 2002, Ali and Alex established Nkuku, a brand that celebrates handmade techniques and traditional skills from artisans across the world.

The journey began with a business plan drafted on a beach, with the name "Nkuku" taken from a Zambian village they passed.

Starting in Devon, they initially sold products from their travels at local markets. Eventually, Nkuku transitioned from a wholesale business to a known retail brand, offering a wide range of homewares, from tableware to furniture.

Values and Ethical Commitment

Nkuku is not just about selling products; it's about values. They are committed to an ethical approach, partnering with independent businesses, social projects, and cooperatives. Their focus? Building transparent, strong relationships with suppliers to ensure mutual success.

They're also environmentally conscious, incorporating natural and recycled materials into their products. From golden hemp and reclaimed mango wood to textiles recycled from old t-shirts, Nkuku champions sustainability and eco-friendly production methods.

Sustainability at Its Heart

Every Nkuku product tells a tale, capturing the essence of traditional, handmade craftsmanship. By embracing low-impact production methods, they bring collections that are individually crafted, ensuring each piece is unique.

The brand cherishes the age-old knowledge passed down through generations of artisans. It's not just about home décor for them; it's about keeping a rich heritage alive and celebrating the beauty of handmade uniqueness.
