Description

Design. An ideal space-saver that doesn’t lack in style, the Melville Small Sofa oozes luxury through curvaceous arms, plump cushioning upholstery and contrasting scatters that offer tactile textures that you won’t be able to keep your hands off. A practical choice for smaller spaces, the Melville features zig-zag spring suspension and foam, fibre wrap and feather cushioning to provide durable and comfortable support – while neutral tones and attention to detail studwork, buttons and turned wood feet complete its grand appeal. Satchel Nutmeg, Alpine Stone Seat, Allure Moss Bolsters, Weathered Oak Feet and Antique Studs.

Our Stylist Says

I love the Melville sofa for its classic yet inviting silhouette, making it a versatile choice for both traditional and contemporary interiors. Its small, cosy design is ideal for compact living spaces or as an accent piece in larger rooms. Styling-wise, adding an array of textured cushions, like velvet or linen, can elevate its look while increasing comfort. It works particularly well in neutral or earthy colour palettes, but don’t shy away from pairing it with bold accessories or a patterned rug to inject personality. Practical tips include layering cushions in varying sizes and textures for visual interest and considering a complementary throw for added comfort and style. It’s a reliable, stylish foundation for a welcoming lounge setup.

About Barker and Stonehouse

Founded in 1946, Barker and Stonehouse offer a diverse range of stylish and timeless pieces. From contemporary to traditional designs, Barker and Stonehouse brings sophistication and comfort to every room.

A Remarkable Journey

Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.

Their fast growth was fueled not only by their flair for business but also by their dedication to innovation. The business transformed over the years, adapting to the changing landscapes of retail, all while preserving its charm and values. By 2021, they marked an impressive 75 years in the industry, a testament to their enduring commitment to quality and customer service.

Sustainability at the Forefront

From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.

Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.

Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.

Innovative Spaces and Expanding Horizons

Over the decades, Barker and Stonehouse didn't just expand in number, but in the quality and innovation of their spaces. From opening their iconic store in Battersea, London, which beautifully preserved the characteristics of an old candle factory, to their latest state-of-the-art Gateshead store in 2023, every location tells a story.

They have also ventured into digital realms, ensuring a vast online presence and offering a wide range of products to customers all over the UK. Their partnerships, like the one with Fenwick in 2021, illustrate their adaptability and constant quest to reach new audiences.
