Description

Contemporary beach scene by artist Janet Gammans. Made in the UK and printed on heavyweight canvas. Janet Gammans began her career in advertising and design in London after leaving college. Janet now works from her studio in South Cambridgeshire as a freelance artist, creating semi-abstract, impressionistic and fine art. Her original paintings are sold from galleries throughout the South of England and internationally online. She has become a much-recognised artist for her subject matter and unique creative work style. "I have come to realise that it's not what you paint that is important, but how you paint it. So in my interpretation of painting a subject, I try to maintain the essence of what first inspired me to paint it. For me, what is fundamental in paintings are light, subtlety of colour, harmony, depth and drama, while still staying true to the subject. In my finished work, I hope I convey to the viewer a sense of mood present at the time of painting." Have you thought about wall hooks and fittings?

Our Stylist Says

I love the John Lewis Janet Gammans 'Sea To Shore' canvas because of its calm, maritime colour palette and versatile size, making it a great feature in both contemporary and coastal-inspired interiors. It works particularly well in living rooms or bedrooms, where a touch of serenity is desired. For styling, try pairing it with neutral tones or soft blues for a cohesive look, or mix it with natural textures like rattan or linen to enhance its beachy vibe. Hang above a sofa or bed for an instant focal point, and consider framing with simple, understated edges to keep the focus on the artwork’s tranquil scene.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
